Emissions Inventory

A central undertaking of the Maritime Air Forum has been the development of a maritime-related air emissions inventory. This inventory identifies and quantifies the kind and sources of air pollution released from maritime-related diesel equipment operating within the greater Puget Sound region. The emissions inventory will serve as a planning tool to help protect ambient air quality and reduce public health risks from exposure to maritime emissions. As our understanding of maritime-related emissions sources improves, the maritime community will be better able to design and implement cost-effective, fact-based air pollution control strategies and deliver air quality benefits to the region.

A detailed maritime vessel emissions inventory is also being prepared for British Columbia and has been prepared for other major west coast ports. This international/west coast coordination will help to ensure consistent methodologies are used to prepare the Puget Sound Maritime Emissions Inventory as well as to further facilitate voluntary emissions reductions from maritime-related sources.

The Puget Sound Maritime Air Emissions Inventory was released on April 10, 2007. Available for download:
